Area cross country runners performed well at Saturday’s state cross country meet in Fort Dodge. In class 2A, the Mid-Prairie boys team finished in 4th place, led by sophomore Peyton Crawford who finished 15th while senior Luke Sigler was close behind in 16th place. Meanwhile the Mid-Prairie girls squad took 8th place. Leading the girls was sophomore Anna Hostetler who finished 8th, while junior Greta Schmidt took 40th place. One other area team qualified for state. in class 1A the Wapello boys finished in 12th place. They were led by senior Brady Royal who finished 33rd, followed by another senior, Dylan Maine who took 48th.
Individual qualifiers included Highland’s Keifer Sexton, a senior, who finished 5th, while Winfield-Mt. Union had a pair of runners, junior Gavin Bencze took 17th and senior Johnathon Quinn finished 25th, all in class 1A. In class 2A, senior Josh Keller took 14th place.
