The outcome was never in question Thursday evening as the Highland Huskies faced Louisa-Muscatine in the Class 2A Region 8 tournament. Highland jumped out to leads in the first two game, winning the match in straight sets (25-10, 25-13, 25-14).
Highland was led offensively by a pair of seniors. Brianna Davis smashed five kills, tied with sophomore Bailey Harmstrom for the team lead. Jenna Dresselhaus served 14 times during the match, second most on the team, scoring four aces in the victory. Junior Kelsey Hora led the Huskies defensively with nine digs.
Highland jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one and a 12-2 lead in game two. The Huskies fell behind 3-1 in game three before taking over the lead.
The win improves Highland to 20-12 overall, a five win improvement from last season. Highland moves on to the Class 2A Region 8 semifinals, facing the No. 4 West Branch Bears (32-5) at West Branch High School. These two teams met once during the regular season with the Bears winning the match in straight sets (23-3, 21-3).
First serve is set for 7 p.m. Friday at West Branch High School.
