Big scoring plays were the main attraction Friday evening in Packwood. The WACO Warriors (3-5 overall; 3-3 Class A District 6) were the senior night opponent of the Pekin Panthers (7-1 overall; 6-0 Class A District 6), who had five players celebrating their final regular season football game at home.
Eleven touchdowns were scored between the squads, seven were 45-yards or longer as the Panthers outlasted the Warriors, 49-32.
Pekin junior quarterback Trevor Northup completed six of his nine passes for 170 yards and a pair of 70-yard touchdown. Seniors Keaton Winn and Chase Copeland each had a 45-yard touchdown run, while sophomore Chandler Eckley returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown in the victory.
WACO had a pair of seniors score on long touchdown runs as well. Jorge Chacon led the Warrior’s scoring off with a 48-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Bryce Achen added a 49-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, amassing 237 yards rushing in the loss.
The victory for Pekin sets up a winner take all district title game versus the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (8-0 overall; 6-0 Class A District 6). W-MU blew out the Van Buren Warriors, 78-8, to preserve an undefeated record.
The loss drops WACO to 3-5 overall, dropping their previous three district games. The Warriors end the regular season next Friday, hosting the Danville Bears (2-6 overall).
