The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team is playing their best of the season at the right time.
Following their first road conference win of the year Thursday in Monticello, Mid-Prairie went 3-2 Saturday against a tough tournament field. The Golden Hawks opened the day falling to Fort Madison in straight sets 18-21 and 18-21 but rebounded to beat class 5A Davenport West 21-8 and 21-14. Mid-Prairie made it two straight with a win over Grinnell 21-14 and 21-19. In their fourth match of the day the Golden Hawks ran into River Valley Conference Rival Durant, the Wildcats won the match in straight sets 9-21 and 21-23 but the Hawks ended the day on a high note taking down the Maquoketa Cardinals 21-12, 18-21 and 15-10.
The Golden Hawks were led on the day by Jaedynn Evans with 44 kills. Clarice Murphy finished with 66 assists and Amanda Miller totaled 33 digs. Following their winning weekend Mid-Prairie is above the .500 mark for the first time since the early season at 14-13. The Golden Hawks will next be in action tonight when the River Valley Conference tournament begins.
