The Iowa Department of Public Health acknowledged 40 water systems across the state for their quality, with one of those here in Washington County.

The Kalona Water Department has been given the Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the state agency. Studies continue to show that water fluoridation prevents about 25 percent of tooth decay in both children and adults.

The award is presented by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
