The conclusion of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball tournament takes place today. Matches in the tournament’s consolation bracket will take place this morning at Lone Tree High School. Among the team’s competing in the consolation bracket include: the Lions, the Central Lee Hawks, the Columbus Wildcats, the Iowa Mennonite School, the Van Buren Warriors, the WACO Warriors, the Wapello Indians, and the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves.
Lone Tree enters play today after a 2-2 finish on Thursday in Eldon. The Lions lost to the pool’s top two seeds the Mediapolis Bullettes (9-21, 10-21) and Cardinal Comets (10-21, 16-21). The Lions bested the Van Buren Warriors (21-9, 21-17) and the Maharishi Pioneers (score) to claim the pool’s third place finish. The Lions are scheduled to face the Central Lee Hawks, the fourth seed in pool two.
It was a surprising third place finish for the Columbus Wildcats, who collected two wins on Thursday in pool four. With home court advantage, the fifth seeded Wildcats earned a three-set victory over the third seeded Iowa Mennonite School (21-19, 11-21, 15-13) and a sweep of the four seed Danville Bears (21-19, 21-18) to earn a higher seed in the consolation bracket. The Wildcats will square off against the WACO Warriors, who finished fourth in pool three. The Warriors’ lone victory on Thursday came against the pool’s fifth place team, the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons, in straight sets (21-12, 21-9).
Finally, the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves split their pair of pool matches on Thursday. The host Wolves were downed by the groups top two seeds New London (8-21, 13-21) and by West Burlington (14-21, 15-21) and edged the WACO Warriors (21-19, 21-18) and the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons (21-6, 21-2). W-MU is set to face the Iowa Mennonite School, the fourth place finisher in pool four. IMS’s lone victory on Thursday came versus the Danville Bears (score).
The final first round match of the SEISC volleyball tournament’s consolation bracket has the Wapello Indians, the third seed in pool two, facing off against the Van Buren Warriors, the fourth seed in pool one.
First round matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. at Lone Tree High School.
