On a warm and windy Tuesday night Highland’s Kieffer Sexton beat a hilly, difficult course in North English, and the rest of the field, winning the English Valleys Invitational.
The Highland Senior, currently ranked number 14 in the state in the latest Iowa Association of High School Track Coaches individual state rankings, led wire to wire and was unchallenged in the second half of the race as he pulled away for his second career win. Sexton finished with a winning time of 17:44.78, winning the race by a full 30 seconds.
The win by Sexton helped Highland to a seventh place finish in the 13 team field with their overall score of 212 points. Clear Creek Amana took the team title with 52 points. Other results for the Huskies included Caleb Brase in 19th, Josh Brand in 42nd, Jared Gringer 66th, Nic Rath 84th and Garret Colbert 85th.
