Corn in southeast Iowa is slightly ahead of the state’s rate, with 94 percent silking and 40 percent in the dough stage in the area. Across the state 93 percent of the corn crop is silking and 30 percent is in the dough stage. Overall, 24 percent of corn is rated excellent, 59 percent is good and 14 percent is fair.

Soybeans in southeast Iowa are behind the state’s rate. In Southeast Iowa, 46 percent of soybeans are setting pods, the state rate is 57 percent and in central Iowa 70 percent of the crop is setting pods. Overall 79 percent of soybeans are rated good or excellent, as of August 2nd. Both crops are ahead of the five-year average.
