The head coach of the Washington Demon baseball team (6-20 overall) has a positive outlook for his team’s future. Nathan Miller says his youthful team gained a lot of valuable experience during the 2015 campaign and expects a lot of key returners next season. “We can easily look back and be disappointed with the season but I always try to be a forward thinker,” Miller said, “I talked to them about all the experiences they faced as a young group and how much of a benefit it will be for us next year. We are going to be transitioning from a young group with inexperience to a group which is a veteran group.”
Four of the Demons’ five all-conference selections are expected to return for the 2016 season, including second team selections sophomores Dakota Kron and Ryan Loy. Ten players recorded 40 or more at bats this spring, seven of whom were sophomores. Washington also expects to return four pitchers who threw more than 26 innings this season including: Zach Londberg, Colin Zear, Michael Gier, and Tanner Coleman.
The Demons’ lone loss to graduation is Blake Weidman, who was Washington’s only first team all-conference selection. Weidman led Washington in a number of offensive categories this past season, including slugging percentage (.488), doubles (10), and tied for the team lead in runs scored (19) and runs batted in (17).
Washington finished the 2015 baseball season with an overall record of 6-20.
