The Washington County 4-H Communications Night was held on Wednesday, July 15, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Thirty-four 4-H’ers gave educational presentations and nine participated in the extemporaneous speaking division. This activity is to help students develop strong communication skills.

In the Junior Division, Zoe Fisher of the Limecreek Limelights and Roy Carter of the Jackson Jets 4-H Club will represent Washington County at the State Fair. Riley Hahn received alternate honors and Payton Peck received the Judge’s Choice trophy from Noon Kiwanis. Other participants receiving participation ribbons included Braydon Younge, RyLee Fishback, Teegan Sulentich, Rob Taylor, Alexandrea Murphy & Grace Voss, Zane Fisher, Carter Harmsen, and Megan Kitchen.

In the Intermediate Division, Michaela Hoffman of the Washington Go-Getters, Amanda Pfeifer of the Riverside Enterprisers, and Brooke Stout of the Jackson Jets will present at the State Fair. Limecreek Limelight Katie Palmer was chosen as an alternate for the State Fair. Michaela Hoffmann also received the Judge’s Choice trophy from Noon Kiwanis. Other participants receiving blue ribbons included Collin Murphy, Madison Fishback, Eli Van Roekel, David Hora, Leah Marek, Maggie Morgan, Lucas Kitchen, Beau Stutzman, Logan Harmsen, and Kamren Martin.

In the Senior Division, Kaycee Miller and Hannah Van Roekel, both members of the Limecreek Limelights, will represent Washington at the Iowa State Fair in August. Jack Carter of the Jackson Jets earned State Fair alternate honors. Hannah Van Roekel also earned the Judge’s Choice award from the Noon Kiwanis. Other participants receiving blue ribbons included Cheyenne Sedlacek, Kaitlin Hora, Emily Hora, Kenzi Marek, and Jack Carter.

Hannah Van Roekel of the Limecreek Limelights and Macy Marek of the Jackson Jets were the two State Fair selections in the Extemporaneous Speaking division. Kaitlin Hora of the Jackson Jets and Spencer Arnold of the Riverside Ramblers were chosen as alternates. These participants draw a topic, have 30 minutes to write a 4-6 minute speech and then deliver it to an audience. Other participants receiving blue ribbons included Keiffer Sexton, Emily Hora, Jack Carter, Kenzi Marek, and Brooke Stout. Van Roekel and Arnold will represent Washington at the Iowa State Fair.
