Less than an hour into game one, the Washington Demon baseball and softball teams were forced off the playing field. The Demons made the trek to Fairfield last night for a Southeast Conference doubleheader against the Trojans.
As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demon softball team looked for their first conference win in Fairfield. Trojan sophomore Kennedy Waugh helped Fairfield jump on the Demons early, sending a lead off home run over the left field fence for a 1-0 advantage. After the teams went through the second inning scoreless, Trojan freshman Ashtyn Drish sent a two-run home run over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead. Not a minute after Drish touched home plate, the game went into a lightning delay.
The Demon baseball team was in the middle of game of the third inning of their first game as well, down 4-1 over the Trojans before the lightning forced a delay in their contest. After waiting for over an hour for the weather to clear, the umpires called the action over for the night.
The Demon baseball team will finish their doubleheader against the Trojans tonight, while the softball team will resume their games at Farifield next Tuesday June 30.
