If given the right care, horticulturists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach say a June-bearing strawberry plant can be productive for several years. June-bearing strawberry plants should be renovated annually to maximize crop yield, prolong life and control insects and disease pests. It is recommended to mow off the leaves one inch above the crowns of the plants within one week of the last harvest and then remove all plant debris.
