A Washington resident is recovering from injuries sustained during a traffic accident in Coralville Thursday morning. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the minivan driven by 32-year-old Anne Marie Goebel was on Iowa Highway 965 when it was hit in the side by a sedan that ran a red light after exiting I-80.
Goebel and the three children in the minivan were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Authorities say the injuries are not life threatening.
The driver of the sedan, 36-year-old Jammie Victoria Castillo of New London, was being pursued by authorities at the time of the accident. She was apprehended after fleeing on foot. It is not yet clear why she was running from law enforcement.
Castillo has been charged with eluding, a felony, and operating under the influence first offense, a serious misdemeanor.
