Inching closer to postseason competition, the Washington Demon boys’ and girls’ track teams travel to Fairfield for the Brookhart-Crew Relays. Both squads took part in the Ekstrand Relays at WACO High School on Thursday and each had several first place performances.

Senior Tommy Peterson returned to top form in the shot put competition, placing first with a toss of 53 feet 0.5 inch. The only meet Peterson hasn’t achieved first place in was at the Drake Relays on April 22, when he recorded his lowest throw of the season at 50 feet 7.5 inches. Peterson finished 17th out of the 24 person shot put field.

Fellow senior Jacob Hennigan bested the field in the 110 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.06 seconds. Final first place finish on the boys’ side Thursday came from sophomore Kyle Schindler, running the 100 meter dash competition in 11.87 seconds.

The Demon girls’ track team saw senior sprinter Macy Marek put together another solid meet. She took top placing in the 100 meter dash with at time of 12.98 seconds, and her 200 meter dash time of 26.75 was the fastest in the meet. Marek was also a part of the 800 sprint medley team that took first, clocking a time of 1:55.28. Other members of the squad included Marek’s younger sister, Makenzi Marek, Makenna Rich, and Morgan Kimball.

Junior McKayla Miller rounds out the Demons’ top performers from the Ekstrand Relays, hurling the shot put a meet-best 33 feet 4.5 inches.

The first events for the 2015 Brookhart-Crew Relays begin at 5 p.m. from Fairfield High School.
