Extra time was needed for the Washington Demon girls’ soccer team (2-6 overall; 1-3 Southeast) to achieve their first home victory of the season, 3-2 in overtime. The Demons welcomed the Mediapolis Bullettes to Washington High School for a non-conference varsity clash.

The Demons and Bullettes traded goals throughout the match with Washington striking first in the 25th minute off the foot of of senior forward Lauren Swan. After 40 minutes of play, Washington and Mediapolis were even at 1-1.

Washington’s Kristen Barber scored the team’s second goal in the second half to regain the lead. The Bullettes tied the game in the 69th minute, forcing the match into overtime.

Washington scored the game winning goal nine minutes into overtime as Kayla Schindler put a deflection into the net. The goal was the fourth of the season for Schindler, which leads the team.

The victory improves Washington’s overall record to 2-6. The Demons’ next match comes Monday afternoon, hosting the Oskaloosa Indians (5-3 overall) at 4:30 p.m. at Washington High School.
