A car accident was reported at approximately 7:38 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 22 near Riverside. The two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 22, west of Highway 218, near Bud’s Custom Meats. The two drivers involved were 56-year-old Mary Albert of Sigourney and a 16-year-old from Riverside. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the Albert vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 22 and was slowing to enter a business, when the 16-year-old rear-ended the vehicle.
Albert was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals. The teenager was taken by private vehicle to Mercy hospital in Iowa City. The accident remains under investigation.
Riverside Fire Department, Riverside First Responders, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, Iowa State Patrol and Washington County Ambulance were on the scene. Traffic was slowed to one lane for some time. KCII News will bring you more information as it becomes official.
