It might be the first week of competition, but the Washington Demon girls’ golf team is off to a fast start this season.The Demons traveled to the Flint Hills Golf Course in Burlington for a nine hole dual with the Burlington Greyhounds Thursday. Washington won their second competition of the week, defeating Burlington 173 to 192.
Washington freshman golfer Sarah Nacos lowered her season average, shooting a one under par 34, on the back nine of Burlington’s 18 hole golf course. The performance helped Nacos medal for the second time in her first week of varsity action, and lowered her season average one stroke from 36 to 35.
Several other Demons dropped their scores from the first outing the of season. Junior Denna Peiffer had the Demons’ second best score of 43, down one stroke from Tuesday’s meet. Senior Sarah Waite had a 45 on her scorecard, five strokes fewer than on Tuesday.
The Demon girls’ golf team has back-to-back home meets next week. Washington welcomes Mount Pleasant for a Southeast Conference dual Monday, and hosts a non-conference triangular with Pella and Ottumwa on Tuesday.
