There will only be at-large seats on the Sigourney School Board in a few years. According to unofficial results from a special election held Tuesday, voters approved a ballot measure that gets rid of the seven current districts. Fifty-nine out of the 94 votes cast were in favor of the proposal.

Superintendent Dave Harper says the four seats up for election in September will be at-large and voted on by the entire district. The three remaining seats will become at-large when the current terms expire in 2017.

Harper explains the goal of making all the positions on the board at-large is to address the difficulty they’ve had in finding candidates to run in certain districts. He adds that in the past, some write-in candidates in those districts have won with just a few votes.
