The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys’ soccer team got their first taste of action against a foe on Saturday as they traveled to Solon to take on the Trojans. The Golden Hawks would go down in the scrimmage losing 3-0.
Head Coach Pat Cady says there are going to be some growing pains early in the year, “We gave up a couple of goals in the first half just from making mistakes, and we told the kids that we were going to make mistakes to start out early, because we have a lot of different responsibilities this year.”
Cady also mentions that they were not used to playing on a big turf field at this point of the year. Cady was pleased with the adjustments his team made, “The adjustments that we made at halftime and going back out I definitely felt that the kids picked it up and it’s where we want them to be, so we were happy on what we got to see.”
Cady said he is still looking for pieces for this team, ” A lot of the returning kids that came off the bench last year or started last year looked good, so we’re just trying to find those other five or six guys that are going to be the assists to make the starting bunch and find the other five or six that are going to come off the bench for us.”
Mid-Prairie will have another tune up game before the start of the regular season in a scrimmage versus Iowa Mennonite School as the Mid-Prairie Soccer Complex on Thursday in Wellman.
