Three Washington boys’ track athletes are heading to Ames this afternoon to compete in one of the top indoor invitationals in the entire state. The Iowa State Indoor Invitational takes place this afternoon and head coach Steve Roth selected senior Tommy Peterson, senior Jacob Hennigan, and junior Michael Ellingson to compete in the meet.

Peterson is representing Washington in the shot put competition. He took first place in the Demon Indoor Invitational with a throw of 52′ 9.00″ on March 6. It was nearly five feet better than Mount Pleasant senior Ben Canby who finished in second place with a throw of 47′ 11.75″.

Hennigan will run in the 55 meter hurdles for the Demons at the Iowa State Indoor Invitational. He finished in fifth place overall in the 60 meter hurdles at the Demon Indoor Invitational.

Finally, Ellingson will compete in the high jump competition at the invitational. Ellingson finished in a tie for seventh place with a jump of 5 feet 8 inches at the Demon Indoor Invitational.

The events at the Iowa State Indoor Invitational begin at 3 p.m. at Iowa State University in Ames. Listen to KCII’s Sports Page tomorrow morning for results from the meet.
