The first year head coach of the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team says he is leaving the district at the end of the school year. Jay Zieglowsky, an alumni of Washington High School and current at-risk teacher at the school, announced his intentions to the Washington School board at their monthly meeting on Wednesday.
Zieglowsky, who first wife Gene passed away of cancer in 2006, is getting remarried this summer and is moving to the state of Michigan to live with his soon-to-be wife.
Prior to taking the head girls’ basketball coaching position last April, Zieglowsky was the head assistant coach under Phil Long for three seasons. He also served as an assistant coach for the football and track teams.
The Demons struggled in Zieglowsky’s only season as head coach, finishing the season with a 6-16 overall record.
