The Iowa House and Senate each proposed state supplemental aid, the House is at 1.25 percent while the Senate approved four percent allowable growth for schools. At this week Washington School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen said he believes it will end up around 2.5 percent. He said, it was reported Iowa is prospering with a billion dollar surplus, but due to over-committing on the commercial and industrial property tax reform other departments are suffering.

State Representative for House District 78 Jarad Klein told KCII News that there isn’t enough money in the state budget to support a four percent increase without making cuts somewhere else. In a written statement, State Senator for District 39, Kevin Kinney, called the 1.25 percent increase inadequate, citing the need to keep up with expenses.
