One KCII area girls’ basketball team’s season ends tonight as the Sigourney Savages (11-8 overall) faces off against the Lone Tree Lions (8-13 overall) in the Class 1 Region 6 tournament opener tonight at Sigourney High School.
The Savages out of the South Iowa Cedar League (SICL) feature an inside-outside combination that has been a huge factor in their success. Junior guard Sierra Davis is average a team high 16.2 points per game, while senior forward Jordan Carter is averaging 14.4 points per game. Both players are in the top five in the SICL conference in points per game.
The Lions out of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference has played better basketball recently, winning five of their last seven regular season games. Lone Tree’s top two scorers are sophomores Madison Forbes (10.2 PPG) and Elena Sieverding (7.2 PPG). Lone Tree’s recent success can be attributed to their play on the defensive end, giving up an average of 35. 7 points per game in their last seven games, and holding three opponents below 30 points in that span.
Tonight’s Class 1A Region 6 district opener between the Sigourney Savages and the Lone Tree Lion is scheduled to top off at 7 p.m. from Sigourney High School.
