Construction at Lake Darling State Park this year will not have much of an impact on park operations. According to Southeast Iowa Parks Supervisor, Tom Basten, work on the six cabins will begin this spring, and should be ready for renting by November. He explains construction traffic will be the project’s only noticeable impact.

The cabins are going to be located in a clearing just beyond the existing cabins. Each will have two bedrooms, a full bathroom and kitchen, a deck and 750 square feet of living space. Basten says Lake Darling will be the first state park in Iowa to have cabins of this size and design.

He adds this project would not have been possible without the Friends of Lake Darling leading the donation drive.
