A winter storm warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. this evening for the KCII listening area. In the past 24 hours, Mother Nature has dropped 5.2 inches of heavy, wet snow in Washington, along with three-quarters of an inch of rain. According to the National Weather Service, total snow accumulation ranges from eight to 15 inches, with the most snow accumulating along Highway 30 and Interstate 80. Also, northeast winds are between 20 and 25 miles per hour, but gusts may reach between 30 and 40 miles per hour. Also, the NWS advises, due to the heavy snow combined with elevated surfaces and strong winds, localized power outages may occur.

This winter weather mix has caused slick roads. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, two accidents occurred in the late hours Saturday. One wreck happened off of G36 near Tulip, where a vehicle left the road and went through a fence. Another accident happened on the Keokuk Washington Road near Keota. No injuries were reported in either wreck.

Snow emergencies remain in effect for the cities of Washington and Wellman.
