Nearing the end of the regular season, the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (4-12 overall; 0-5 Southeast) is still searching for their first win inside the Southeast Conference. This evening, Washington welcomes the Keokuk Chiefs to town for a conference tilt in the Demons’ annual Slam Dunk Cancer fundraiser event.

The two teams met earlier this season in Keokuk, with the Chiefs coming away with a 40-30 victory. Washington junior guard Amber Salow scored a team-high eight points, senior guard Dylann Schuletter added seven, and junior forward Addie Pacha contributed six points and grabbed down six rebounds in the setback.

Keokuk, who is averaging 55 points per game, was held well below their season average in their first meeting with Washington. Senior guard Laykn Boltz scored a game-high 12 points, while sophomore forward MaKenzie Pezley added 10 points and brought down 10 rebounds in the victory.

Washington has lost their first five Southeast Conference games this season all by double figures. The loss to Keokuk represents the Demons’ closest margin of defeat this season in conference play.

The girls’ varsity game between Washington and Keokuk is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. tonight. Live play-by-play coverage from Washington High School begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5:45 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
