While there isn’t much greenery outside at this time, winter is a good time to focus on indoor plants. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach horticulturists explain fig trees may lose some leaves during winter due low light levels, cold drafts, low humidity and other stressful environmental factors. These environmental factors may cause houseplants to shed some leaves during the winter.

Also, African violets may not be receiving adequate light for good blooms. African violets do best with light from windows with north or east exposure but they also do well under fluorescent lights.
