Temperatures were frigid across the area yesterday and early this morning with the overnight low recorded at -12 degrees. This is still five degrees warmer than the record low for this date witnessed in 1970. According to the National Weather Service, so far this month the average temperature has been 13.9 degrees, while the normal is 21.1 degrees.
Also, the normal snowfall for the first week of January is 1.6 inches, but we have received 7.2 inches since January 1st.
The snowfall caused a snow emergency to be declared in the City of Washington Monday evening and throughout Tuesday. Yesterday seven vehicles in the city were towed due to violating the emergency snow ordinance, which requires vehicles be moved from city parking to allow snow plows to work.
