Volunteers stood outside area businesses with red kettles last month ringing bells and asking for donations. The Salvation Army bell ringing campaign raised $14,174 in Washington. Of the funds raised, 70 percent, or $9,921, will be used in Washington County to aid people in need with utilities, groceries, rent and mortgage payments.
The committee extends a thanks to all of the bell ringers and the businesses and people who donated.
Last year the campaign raised $12,411.
