A four-vehicle wreck with a fatality happened on a snow covered Highway 218 in Henry County, near 185th Street yesterday, north of Mt. Pleasant. At approximately 3:58 p.m., a Ford Taurus driven by 57-year-old David L. Harris of Canton, Missouri, was southbound on Highway 218 when it lost control on the snow and crossed the median into the northbound lanes.

The Harris vehicle then collided with a Sienna van driven by 36-year-old Karla Scheker of Olds and a Park Avenue Buick driven by 46-year-old Juvenal Avendano-Sanchez of Columbus Junction.

Also, a semi that was northbound on the highway entered the median to avoid the collision, striking a post before coming to rest on the inside shoulder of the southbound lanes.

Shecker was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital for injuries. Harris was transported by ambulance to the Henry County Health Center but died as a result of the wreck.
