The Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting tax returns in two weeks, on January 20th, both electronically and paper tax returns. This will be the first year that an Iowa adoption tax credit is available and it is for $2,500 of unreimbursed expenses related to adoption. Also, this year the volunteer firefighter, EMS and reserve peace officer credit is increased to $100. Social security benefits are not subject to the Iowa income tax.
