Iowa’s ethanol production hit a record high 3.9 billion gallons in 2014. According to the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, ethanol plants across the state produced nearly 4 billion gallons last year, up from 3.7 billion gallons the previous three years. The recent production included a small amount of cellulosic feedstocks such as corn stover and corn kernel fiber.
Iowa is the number one ethanol producing state with its 43 ethanol refineries and 12 biodiesel facilities. Also, the state is estimated to account for about 27 percent of the nation’s production in 2014, according to the IRFA.
