It might of only been a scrimmage, but the Washington girls basketball team showed how hard and physical they can be this upcoming season Friday night in Wayland. The Demons and WACO Warriors took part in the annual Hall of Pride scrimmage last night at Bob Hilmer Court.

The exhibition contest had 52 fouls called between both teams, resulting in 64 foul shots taken. In the end, Washington prevailed 48-37 over WACO.

Junior Amber Salow was the lone Demon in double figures scoring with 11 points. Senior Dylann Schluetter added 9 points, and finished six of seven at the free throw line. Demon post players Hannah Black and Addie Pacha led the team with four fouls a piece.

Senior Aaliyah Brown had 11 points and grabbed down 13 rebounds to lead WACO. Fellow senior Erika Leichty added 8 points and 5 rebounds for the Warriors in the setback. WACO had four players commit four fouls in the game, with Leichty and senior Jalyssa Jepson fouling out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Washington opens up the season Monday evening against the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets, Class 2A’s 12th ranked team team. WACO begins the season Tuesday evening as they travel to Columbus Junction to take on the Columbus Wildcats.
