The Iowa Department of Public Health has announced that 13 travelers are currently being monitored for Ebola in Iowa. The travelers were in Sierra Leone, Liberia or Guinea in the last 21 days. Twelve reportedly had low risk of being exposed to Ebola and are being allowed to resume to normal activities but they have been ordered by IDPH to self-monitor, by taking their temperature twice a day and report their health status to public health.

One person had some risk of being exposed to Ebola and has been quarantined. The quarantine means they have been directed to stay home and take their temperature twice each day, and at least once with a public health official observing.

There is no risk to public safety at this time and none of the travelers have shown symptoms consistent with Ebola.

Due to the small number of travelers returning from Ebola-affected countries in West Africa, the release of county-level data showing where they are has not been released as it could lead to the identification of individuals which is in violation of Iowa law.
