The City of Kalona is looking to partner with landowners along Salveson Creek. At this week’s city council meeting, the Iowa Flood Center recommended installing retention basins north of town and within city limits to reduce the velocity of storm water runoff. The basins would range in size from under half an acre to four acres.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says they’ve started a dialogue with members of the Amish community north of town. He says the proposal has been well received so far.

A meeting with property owners that would be impacted by this project is tentatively set for November 25th.
