The Keota volleyball team will have their home fans behind them when they resume regional tournament play this evening. The 18-6 Eagles welcome the 23-7 Iowa Valley Tigers to town for a Class 1 Region 7 semifinal matchup.

Keota made it to the regional semifinal by sweeping Montezuma out of the tournament (25-13, 25-16, 25-20), while Iowa Valley advanced to the round after sweeping Lynnville-Sully (25-9, 25-12, 25-13).

These two South Iowa Cedar members faced each other in conference play earlier this season. The first meeting went five sets with Keota coming out victorious (25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 18-25, 15-11) on September 15th in Marengo. Keota senior Madison Sheetz made her mark on the match. She had a team high 18 kills, and added 13 digs in the victory. Junior setter Abby Schulte collected 22 assists in match.

If the Eagles are to win the rematch, they will need a good performance out Sheetz. On the season, the senior is averaging just over four kills per set, and is two kills shy of 300 for the season. Defensively, senior Callie Greiner leads the Eagles with 207 digs, an average of nearly three digs per set. The winner of tonight’s match advances to the regional championship match next Wednesday in Lone Tree. Tonight’s regional semifinal match between Keota and Iowa Valley serves at 7 p.m. at Keota High School.
