The Washington Demons volleyball team opens up their postseason run this evening. The 6-22 Demons are a first round host in the Class 4A Region 7 bracket and will face the 2-20 Davenport North Wildcats in their regional opener.
Washington comes into the post season off a straight set loss to Southeast Conference foe Fort Madison (14-25, 10-25, 16-25) last Tuesday in Washington. The Demons are led offensively by junior Amber Salow, who enters postseason play with 102 kills, while senior Lauren Swan has a team leading 315 assists. Defensively, senior Macey Marek leads Washington with 202 digs, while senior Sydney Hoffman leads the Demons with 13 blocks. Head coach Julliana Berg believes they are better than their record indicates.
“Our squad would agree that their are some matches we should of had that didn’t get and our record should be a little bit better than it is.” Berg said, “I tell the girls I am not so much worried about the wins and losses. I am worried about are we are we getting better, are our skills improving, are we having fun.”
For Davenport North, they enters the postseason after a straight set tournament loss to Union Township (14-25, 25-27) last Wednesday. Senior Jenna Ringsdorf leads the Wildcat offense with 105 kills, while senior Kylie Farnsworth leads Davenport North with 227 assists. Defensively, senior Alex Harper has a team leading 96 digs, while Ringsdorf has a team leading 18 blocks. The match will take place starting at 7 p.m. at Washington High School.
