The KCII listening area will be well represented next month at the 2014 Iowa High School State Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge. Two area teams and several individual runners will represent their schools on Saturday November 1st at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

In the Class 2A district qualifying meet at Louisa-Muscatine, it was the Mid-Prarie Golden Hawk girls’ team finishing as the second best team in the district. Mid-Praire heads to state with Monticello and Mediapolis, who finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the team standings. Two Golden Hawks finished in the top 10 – Anna Hostetler, and Maddie Zahradnek.

The top three teams at each qualifying meet advance to the state meet.

In the Class 1A district boys’ qualifying meet at Pekin, it was the Wapello Indians finishing the meet as the second overall best team. Wapello heads to state with Pekin and West Marshall, who finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the team standings.

Several individual runners will represent their school in Fort Dodge next month. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks boys’ team qualified one runner for the Class 2A State Meet, Jared Draper.

In Class 1A competition, the Iowa Mennonite School will send three runners to this year’s state competition. They include Kirby Shetler, Riley Schmieder and Renee Buckwalter. The Highland Huskies and Winfield-Mount Union Wolves will each send two runners from their boys’ teams. Highland’s state qualifying runners include Evan Mahler and Kieffer Sexton. Winfield-Mount Union ‘s runners are Gavin Bencze and Johnathon Quinn. Finally, the Columbus Community Wildcats will send Josh Keller to represent the boys team.
