It was a tough evening Friday in Van Buren for the Winfield-Mount Union football team.

The 5-2  Wolves had won four of their first five district games of the season as they traveled to play the Warriors, who came in with an identical record of 5-2 overall and 4-1 in district play. The Warriors proved to be too much for the Wolves, as Van Buren won 32-0 over Winfield-Mount Union. Winfield-Mount head coach Scotty McCarty said things didn’t go the Wolves way this week.

“We didn’t execute very well offensively.” McCarty said, “We were 5 of 19 throwing the ball with a couple of picks (interceptions) and no scores.”

The Wolves didn’t have a 100 yard rusher in the contest either. Overall, the offense totaled 150 yards in the setback. The loss drops Winfield-Mount Union to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the district. The Wolves will finish the regular season this Friday in a district matchup with the Pekin Panthers in Pekin.
