A group of WACO High School students will be helping Wayland homeowners with yard work tomorrow. Last year, WACO began their 4+1 schedule, where students can take alternative classes, college courses, and recover credits two Fridays out of the month, in exchange for longer days Monday through Thursday.

One of the options, titled Leo Club Volunteerism, has students do community service in Wayland, Crawfordville and Olds, as well as Washington. Tomorrow, the forty students who chose this option will take part in the Annual City of Wayland Fall Cleanup where they’ll do yard work for interested residents.

WACO teacher Carole Martins leads the program. She says those who would like some help can call 319-256-6200. Any organizations that have volunteering opportunities are also encouraged to contact Martins.
