Fresh off a sweep of Washington last Thursday, the Mid Prairie Golden Hawks were looking to start a winning streak Tuesday at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.

Mid Prairie hosted conference foe Durrant-Bennett, who came into the match 11-2 overall and undefeated in River Valley South play.

The Golden Hawks surrendered a four point lead in each game, and would ultimately fall in straight sets to the Wildcats (25-12, 25-17, 25-15).
Head coach Cindy Miller says the team switched their offensive formation to a 5-1 due to the injury absence of senior Ashlin Stumpf.

“We are use to having three hitters in the front row.” Miller said, “Obviously in a 5-1 you only have two at times and Durrant is pretty good at jump serving and we were having a hard time with that.

Stumpf injured her ankle during practice on Monday, and Coach Miller is unsure for her status in Thursday’s game at Tipton and this weekend’s Hawk’s Tournament.

Senior Taylor Kurtz led the way for the Golden Hawks with 6 kills and was a perfect 8-8 service. Senior Ashley Miller had a team high 8 digs and was 10-11 serving in the setback. Mid Prairie will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Tipton to face the Tigers.
