It’s football preview week on KCII, and we’ll highlight the Washington Demons to start.

The Demons are coming off the best season in school history, making it to the state title game last year, and finishing as runner-ups.

Washington gets a new coach this year in Garrison Carter, while the team gets a little bit of a new look with a lot of graduating seniors. Offensively, the Demons lose all of their running back, including Alex Coker who led the team with 1,467 yards and 25 touchdowns. The Demons do return Bryce Rickey who had 242 yards and Jacob Hennigan who had 181 yards. The bulk of the offense will be focused on senior quarterback Daryn Seibelius, as he is not only the leading rusher with 774 yards and eight touchdowns, but during the scrimmage on Friday, passed much more than fans are used to seeing. Seibelius was 59-120 last year with 13 touchdowns. He will have some speed on the outside with Jack Giardino and size with Thomas Bump, but the question mark is the top returning receiver in Gage Redlinger who went down with injury. The offensive line will be anchored by none other than Tommy Peterson.

On the defensive side of the ball the Demons are a little thinner. The defensive line is the most experienced, with the bookends of Tama Leutele and Thomas Bump to lead the way, and Tommy Peterson playing both ways this year and clogging up the middle. The linebackers are where the biggest need is for the Demons, with leading tackler Jeff Knupp out with an ACL injury and Brad Skubal out with injury, the Demons look to some green players to take over the Demons strongest area last year. In the secondary, Seibelius will play both ways back at safety, while Giardino will play one side of the corner, and the other side is again a question mark due to the Redlinger injury.

Special teams while be a game time review, as there were no special teams at the scrimmage.

Washington’s schedule ranks as one of the toughest in Iowa, opening against Pella, then traveling to Marion and Clear Creek Amana, before taking on Fairfield and then traveling to semi-final opponent Solon. The Demons will see the rest of the Southeast Conference in Ft. Madison, Keokuk and Mt. Pleasant before they host newly added to 3A Davenport Assumption.

First game for the Demons is Friday at Case field against Pella.
