Temperatures are forecast to rise above 90 degrees today in Washington with heat indexes in the 100s for the week across the state. The Iowa Department of Public Health is reminding Iowans to take care during hot weather, especially with the state softball tournament and RAGBRAI this week. People at greatest risk include those over 65 years of age, infants and young children, overweight individuals, those outdoors and people who have a chornic illness.

IDPH recommends increasing fluid take, wear lightweight clothing and hats, use sunscreen and stay in shade or air conditioning if possible.

Also, Amber Talbot, Director of PAWS and More animal shelter in Washington, reminds pet owners to take care of their animals by keeping water bowls full, providing shade and never leaving them in a car.
