In two days three cases of Lyme Disease were confirmed in Washington County, reports Washington County Public Health during last week. Typically one to four cases of Lyme Disease are confirmed in the county each year. Symptoms of Lyme Disease includ a circular rash similar to a bull’s eye, fever, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint paint, and stiff neck. It may cause complications with the heart, nervous system or joints. To prevent getting Lyme Disease do not walk barelegged in tall grass or woods, check for ticks every 2 to 3 hours, wear long sleeves and tuck pants into socks. Also, use a tick repellent containting DEET.

If a tick is found, remove it immediately by grabbing the tick with tweezers as close to the skin as possible and pull it straight out.
