A proposal to have a stretch of road in Southeast Iowa nicknamed the Ding Darling Memorial Highway has received approval from the Iowa Department of Transportation. Signs will be put up on Highway 78 from Hedrick to Highway 218.

According to Brighton Chamber of Commerce member Rosemary Pacha, the $2,000 Washington County Riverboat grant they were awarded last week should cover the cost of the signs. She adds state DOT staff will donate their time to install them.

An official announcement dealing with the proposal’s approval will take place on Thursday during the Lake Darling State Park ribbon cutting. The ribbon cutting at 1:30 will be followed by a tour of the park and a picnic.
