In Iowa 18.1% of adults smoke, with tobacco leading to the deaths of 4,400 adults annually. The Iowa Department of Public Health is currently offering eight weeks of free nicotine replacement to eligible Iowans over the age of 18. More than 4,000 Iowans took advantage of this program during fiscal year 2014. Also, the Centers for Disease Control is launching a new campaign regarding tobacco education and the effects of smoking-related diseases, such as stroke and cancers.
