The school rivalry between Highland and Lone Tree increases in intensity tonight as they meet one last time this season in the district championship game.
The Huskies are 19-13 on the season and had to beat Lisbon at Lisbon to get to this game. Lane Welsh is their top bat with a .385 average and 11 RBI’s on the season, while Adam Schwarz is second on the team with a .300 average and 14 RBI’s. Highland’s top pitcher is Chase Rath with a 3-0 record, .86 ERA and 34 strikeouts on the season.
Lone Tree is 19-6 on the season, and snuck past Midland 5-4 to get to the championship. Shay Ty Robertson is the top bat for the Lions with a .407 average and 27 RBI’s, while Jake Viner is No. 2 with a .370 average and 20 RBI’s. Lone Tree has six bats hitting over .300 on the season. The Lions top arm is Erik Murry, with a 6-2 record, .53 ERA, 80 strikeouts and opponents hit .119.
Not only is this game a rivalry and for a chance to go to the sub-state final, but it is also the rubber match of the year. Lone Tree won the first game back at the start of the season 7-3, but it was Highland scoring two in sixth and stealing the win on the road in the second game.
