The Washington Demon baseball team swept the Panthers on senior night at home.

Washington threw a couple of young arms to start each game, and then had senior Elijah Wood close the door.

In game one, Washington led off the game with a run with Tanner Knupp coming home off an error. The Panthers answered in the second with a solo shot from Colton Schinstock to tie the game 1-1. The Demons responded with another run in the third with a double from Walker Breard, and then scoring on an error to make it 2-1 after three.

Washington got their insurance in the fourth, with four runs, highlighted by a three run shot from Walker Breard to deep right center field for the homer. The Demons gave up one more run in the fifth inning to make the final 6-2 score as Mt. Pleasant couldn’t handle the arm of Elijah Wood.

In game two, the Demons played from behind, as the Panthers jumped on Michael Gier early with two runs in the first.Washington trailed 2-0 untilt he third when a single by Knupp, and Jacob Green getting hit by a pitch put two on with two outs, and Walker Breard stepped up and hit the two RBI double to tie the game 2-2. Mt. Pleasant quickly retook the lead in the fourth with a run off a bunt, but the Demons outdid that run in the fifth with three of their own. Washington had one out and two on when the Panthers changed pitchers and decided to intentionally walk Walker Breard. They came back to bite them as they walked a run in after walking Wood, a passed ball scored another, and a fielders choice scored the fifth run of the game for Washington to make it 5-3.

The Panthers didn’t go down quietly though, as they scored on more in the sixth and threatened another run before Wood shut the door again and the Demons won 5-4.

Londberg won game one, going 4 1/3 innings with two earned runs, while Gier won game two going five innings with five hits and four runs, two earned. Wood threw 4 2/3 total innings last night with six strikeouts. Walker Breard went 3-4 on the night with three runs, five RBI’s, two doubles and a homer.

Washington will take the weekend off for the Fourth of July.
