A new initiative to provide food to those in need is coming to the area. Amanda Pieper, Director of the Food Pantry with Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, or HACAP, explains a mobile food pantry was launched in Benton County and is branching out to Washington County this month. The mobile truck pantry will set up at a location in Washington and then allow patrons a chance to select foods they like, similar to grocery shopping but at no cost.

One in four children in Washington County do not know where their next meal is coming from. Pieper adds they see a great need during the summer months, as many children who get meal assistance while at school are now home during the days. Also, HACAP is looking to partner with local vendors to provide fresh produce to families.
