Heavy rain in southeast Iowa caused issues in the City of Kalona Monday afternoon. At around 4pm, Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh reported that A, C, D, E, G and J Avenues were underwater. Shortly after that, the Kalona Fire Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to flooding in downtown Kalona.
The English River at Kalona is expected to rise three feet above flood stage by Wednesday. A flood warning for that area expires Thursday morning.
The storm that brought the rain also knocked down trees in Kalona and Wellman.
